Factors to Consider When Choosing Your Next CT Scanner

Are you in the market for a new CT scanner? When considering the purchase of a used CT scanner, there are two key points to remember during the initial stages of your search.

  • First, think about the types of exams the scanner will primarily perform.
  • Second, identify any limitations you hope to address by adding a pre-owned CT machine.

A higher slice count can reduce scan times and produce higher picture resolutions. Still, a lower slice count may be sufficient for many hospitals—this largely depends on your specific scanning requirements. For high-volume hospitals, a 16-slice CT scanner is typically a good choice. A 64-slice CT scanner is commonly used for cardiac or trauma cases and in hospitals where time is critical. Finally, the 128-slice CT scanner is often reserved for cardiac imaging and can perform whole-body scans in seconds while providing excellent quality 3D images.
